Yesterday was a good day! I had my hair done by Karen - she showed me how to make my hair curly! Apparently I am getting a natural wave to my hair as I get older! Go figure! I was so happy with my hair in it's ringlets! It was so pretty! I was excited to see if I could work with it again today and get it to repeat.
I had settled in for the evening and around 10:00 I let the dogs out for the last time. As I was standing on the porch - singing the song I sing to them while they go potty - don't ask! - I saw some small creature scurrying at the border of our property! Apparently, so did Zeus!
Off he went! All of a sudden I smelled the dreaded smell..... Skunk! Zeke and Zoe quickly came up the stairs and just as quickly went back down again to check on Zeus. Then all three of them came back up and Zeus was walking with his head down like he was ashamed.
I picked up his face and his eyes were watering and the scent was overwhelming! I went into major 'mom mode' and called our vet to get advice. In the mean time, I texted a friend of mine and told him what had happened and he Googled an alternate remedy that used ingredients I had in the house rather than the popular Tomato juice remedy, since I did not have any. I mixed Hydrogen Peroxide, Dish Soap and Baking Soda together and wrangled my 92 pound baby into the shower to try to de-scent him! What a sight we were! Over all, he was good! He just stood there and let me soap him and rinse him , but I could tell that he was still humiliated! I think it hurt his pride that his "prey" sprayed him!
I toweled him off, but could still smell the slight scent of skunk, so he and his siblings slept in thier kennels instead of with me in bed!
The very first thing I did this morning was call Dr. Harrell and schedule a bath with the special skunk shampoo! He did well and now I have a beautiful de-skunked boy! Now if I could just get the lingering smell out of my house!
I never knew about the baking soda, and laundry soap remedy.
