Frequent House Guests

I would like to introduce you to the two regular house guests we have - Ben and Trixie. Ben is the cat - we think he is around 14 although he acts 10 years younger than that. Apparently he belonged to a lady, Edith, who lived in this house quite some time ago. When Edith left to go to a nursing home, Ben, who was called Ned at the time, went to live across the street with Judy. When Judy left, Ben then moved next door to Judy's house to live with Sandy which is where he was living when we moved in a couple of years ago. When we moved in, Ben started coming over to our house and demanding to be let in like he owned the place. He would take long naps and then leave when he needed to.
Last year, Ben accidentally got trapped in a neighbor's abandoned shed for 10 days - we thought he had been eaten by something and didn't realize he was right next door. Someone heard him meowing and low and behold, here comes Ben after going without food and water for 10 days like nothing had happened! He was a little thin, but other than that, he was fine. Mike and I still decided to start offering him food as well as what was offered at Sandy's house so he could regain his weight a little quicker. So now that we have a food bowl for him, Ben comes around a lot more! As soon as Sandy lets him out of her garage every morning, he comes running over to our house for his food and naps!
Here he is waking from one of his many naps that he takes in the dogs' kennels. I have no idea why he chooses to sleep there, but he does.

And this is Trixie. Trixie lives a couple of blocks away and for the past year or so, has been coming over randomly. Sometime she stays for an hour or two - sometimes she stays for 4 days at a time! Her parents aren't friends of ours - we don't really know them well, but they know where she goes, so they just let her stay as long as she likes. We love Trixie, so we are fine with this, but I could not imagine not knowing exactly where my babies were.

Anyhow, Trixie loves to play with Zeke, Zoe and Zeus. It is so funny to see this little dog start "play fights" with them! They get so excited when they see her waddling towards the house.

So apparently I have a beacon over my house that says "All pets welcome". Which is fine! I love them more than most people!

  1. That's so funny that this dog and cat just make themselves at home with you! It's cute!
