I am going to Knoxville to see my friend Megan next week and I will have several layovers in my journey. I finally broke down and purchased an inexpensive MP3 player. I figured this would help time pass quickly and would also keep the crazy people who are usually attracted to me at bay.
I wanted to be frugal, so I chose not to invest in an actual iPod. I figured that other brands could get the same job done for less. I selected a little black number by RCA. I actually like it - as an MP3 player it does a good job. This model came with 50 free downloads from a company that I had not heard of. I was so excited!
So I get home and download the applications that will enable this treasure of 50 free downloads. I start searching the cache of artists on this service...... let me start by saying that there were a few that I had heard of, but for the most part, when I would do an artist search, the cache would suggest "similar artists" or, better yet, they songs I wanted performed not by the actual artists, but by someone else doing Karaoke. Um. No. Why would I waste a download on someone doing karaoke? I can't believe these people think that is an acceptable alternative!
So I have been racking my brain to come up with searches to find artists and songs in this cache that I like so I can get my 50 free songs. It is not as easy as you think. I have 15 more to go. And this is after I have downloaded entire albums to get 1 song. I did this because this was the only way this service would release certain songs. For example, I wanted "Love, Save the Empty" by Erin McCarley and I had to download the entire "He's Just Not That Into You" soundtrack to get it. The upside is that I have found other songs from that soundtrack that I really like, so it was not a total waste.
So now that I have gotten all of that out of the way, I have thoroughly enjoyed having my music around. I had forgotten how vital music is in my life. I wear my ear buds when I walk the dogs and I have found that my pace has picked up and I am not getting irritated as easily with the surrounding red necks! It's easy not to get irritated when you can't hear them!
We've gotten stuck with a karaoke alternative. That can be scary!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got an MP3 Player you are happy with!
