My First Catch!

I was surprised with a beautiful red kayak on Saturday! Mike came home from a business trip with a gorgeous Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 strapped to the top of his truck! I was elated! It was too late to go out by the time we unwrapped it, but we made plans to take the dogs to Aransas Pass the next morning so I could take "Rebel" out on her first ride!

We got to Aransas Pass and the dogs had a field day! They LOVE the water! I enjoy watching the run and frolic more than anything! They ran so hard for 45 minutes and as Mike and I were heading to un-strap the kayak for my first ride, we noticed Zeke licking his paw furiously. He gashed his pad pretty badly on an Oyster Shell. So, of course we loaded up and drove back home with me in the backseat with Zeke applying pressure to the wound and praying it wouldn't end in a vet's visit. So it looked like there would be no kayaking for me just yet.

When Mike and I got home, we noticed that the bleeding had stopped somewhat and we calmed down a bit. I was settling in to play "Mom" for the afternoon and tend to Zeke. I could always go out another day!
Then, our friend Dave called to see how my first kayaking trip went and Mike told him what had happened to Zeke. Dave immediately offered to take me out and teach me a few tricks of the trade! I was so excited! Dave kayak fishes almost everyday! So off we went to Aransas Pass. It was so exhilarating to be right on top of the water and to see the magnificent scenery and wildlife before me. It humbled me to comprehend that this was all laid out for us by God's hands and how seldom we stop to take it all in.
After a while, Dave tethered me to his kayak and started casting his rod. When he got a bite, he handed it over to me! How awesome it was to feel the fish tug! I spun the reel furiously and fought to bring the fish in! Check out my first catch!

I am a happy girl! Those of you who know me, know what a big step this is for me to even have a fish this close to me! I am overcoming my fears and building a hobby. I am truly blessed.
